Victorian Fire Update...

Several blogger friends have asked for updates on the
Victorian situation. I did find a link to the Australian Age, which gives updates as of yesterday 13/02/09.

At the bottom of this post is a map of the fires still burning and the stages of control they are in. I was staggered to see the huge list of fires when I clicked on the link. I knew there were a large number of fires, but I had no idea just how many. Please click on this Link, it will take you to the larger map and an actual list of the fires.

Last night as I was leaving work for home, I was shocked
to see the moon ORANGE and glowing...so much smoke
in the sky that it had completely altered the color of the
moon. I tried to get a photo of it, but there were too many
street lights in the way. I managed to get a very poor shot
between the foliage of a large tree and although you can't
see the actual shape of the moon, it's distorted at best.
You sure can see the color...and that stopped me in my
tracks.

The smell of smoke fresh and old is hanging in the air
outside our home today and all of Melbourne. Actually,
it's in our home as well. Even though I knew the fires
were a horrible reality, the smoke is a reality check all
on its own. No denying we have fires here. I took a
couple of shots down the road from our home to show
the smoke has collected in a low lying pocket.

But to my knowledge no one is in danger because they
don't know about these fires, those in the fire areas are
either not there anymore, or not in danger at this point.

This Link and the one above has further information
that you may find of interest, especially my fireman mate Ric, this link,
I think will interest you. xxooxx.

Thank you to everyone who has read my blogs on the
fire and thought of and prayed for all our firefighting
people and the victims. And a very special mark of
gratitude to countries that have offered aid and their
firefighters to help us out. America and New Zealand
have offered man power - Thank you!

Love,

  5. that looks so familiar to me. This last summer a large part of California was on fire, MM and i ended up MOVING during all the smoke. Our moon was orange for months. Its pretty, but yet it comes from such destruction.
I hope you all get some relief soon, thanks for the update... glad we could send some people to help.
