basking in your own white light
don’t think i haven’t noticed your waxen face
harboring earth’s secrets behind your vacant expression
no mouth, no eyes, no tell-tale tongue
as often i gaze at your disinterested fullness
no enlightenment do I receive
dispassionately you watch
bound to earth in planetary orbit
offering intimate surroundings for lovers' trysts
in reality, giving nothing but a cool light
i know you don’t care
you’re a faceless, thoughtless, round ball in the night sky
pretty is as pretty does
and yet -
i find you comforting in your voiceless devotion
