I'm leaving, please don't let me...

on friday, compose a short story of 55 words - no more,
no less. if you want to join in the fun and give it a your story and report it to G-man

I was listening to Duffy while thinking about a 55 to write. This woman is inspirational, her voice seems to reach inside me, reminds me of things...some good, some bad, some bloody awful. But I got a 55 out of the memories.

How come years and years after the fact, some memories can still bring us undone? I guess the time factor, forgiveness and love helps us to leave the past in the past.

I was listening to I'm Scared in my side bar, when I wrote this 55...

Standing in the circle of your arms
here to say goodbye...
never look back

the touch of your hand
the piteous look in your eyes

It's over and I'm barely holding on

you're going to let me walk out that
you won't even blink when it slams

It's over and I'm barely holding on

I know this reads sad, but it really was a very long time ago and that takes the sting out of the memory. It could almost have been someone else's life I was remembering. Memories eh-- every body's got 'em!

Have a great Friday everyone! :)

  1. wow, that is very heartfelt, even if, as you say, so many years have passed. memories, gotta treasure them...

  2. Goodbyes are always hard, especially if it wasn't your idea. They say that time heals, but I don't think the heart ever forgets.

My MIL said a friend of hers told her that "It never goes away, it gets gets a bit easier with time." They were discussing being a widdow.

  3. Another Gem from your very creative mind Eaton...
    Great 55!!!
Thank You so much for sharing your talent once again...
You should do this for a living...hehee
Thanks for visiting, thanks for contributing masterfully, and have a Wonderful Week-End...Galen

  4. Whoa. Were you listening to the song, or writing it?

That should be put to music if it hasn't been already.

  5. i know what that feels like except it was someone else walking out :-/ funny how things make us feel a little sad. great 55.

    i'm up here 55

  6. Hmmm, it seems we are both haunted by memories this week. Scary how in sync we are again, my friend!

    Perfectly written, as always!

  7. Very sad. But you held on if that's you in the poem.

  8. that is heartfelt and poignantly beautiful!

  9. It does seem that when the grip needs be tightest, the palms seem weakest.

Good write and great read Eaton. Thank you for it.

  10. it's good when writing something out can take the pain away. better when it's done so artfully.

  11. Dear Eaton,
Oh, my! That poem got to me, under the barring threshold.
It deserves to be read and sung from a higher mountain.
    Thank you.
    From Felisol
