Poem a day challenge...

Day 11 Prompt: Object

Unfolding the letter
written in a moment of
despair
the meaning all too clear

a lonely lover far from home

France 1918--
a cry in the dark
guilt and hate turned
inwards

"...and when I come home
please don't expect me
to be the same
I played war--a game
the Allies won
I lost
I'm lost
a mess
don't know if I will ever
be the same."

the letter that
broke her heart

Love,

  1. *clapping* Wonderful dear, and the images fit so well. Your poetry tells stories. I love it!

  2. A strong contender for my favorite in this series Eaton. There is so much said here in so few words. One gets the sense of the mindset of both the recipient and the sender after enduring war in their own way.

  3. I could feel the emotion in that and the picture choices were just right to go with your poem, great work
