Haiku

*one of my most favorite photos*

pale moonlight...
leaves flirting with the breeze
morning all too soon

intrusion

I stood in your walled enclave
this collective dead man’s ghetto
I worried that I had caught your faces
on my camera
frame by frame
but when I looked
nothing -
no bones no pinch of skin
no remains
nothing
                 captured on any frame

I thought I heard your murmurings
your underwhelmed sighs
I don’t want to hear your stories
too many voices to see with my eyes

overwhelmed I walked away
leaving the tapestries of your lives
woven in the masonry patchwork
sewn on dead men's ground -
I left you beyond the lies.

love,
Eaton
